Smocking
Smocking is an embroidery technique that takes a lot of effort, but the result is exclusive and beautiful. We believe that every little child should own a smock. It is something that you treasure and keep aside for the next generation. The technique of hand smocking involves tucking fabric on a pleater so that the folds are strung together with thread. This allows the garment to stretch when used by the child, giving some room for movement and wear. Previously, smocking was commonly used in cuffs, bodices, and necklines in garments before the advent of elastic.
Smocking at Tara is done on newborn cotton tops, rompers and party dresses. We also sometimes make smocked detailing on linen that is quite unique.
